Dr R.K. Balley is a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has written his PhD thesis on the Title: “Elderly Punjabis in Indian Diaspora: A Comparative Study of Punjab and UK.” During his field study days he met hundreds of older persons in Punjab and UK.  His study found that a large number of older persons are suffering due to isolation, poverty, unemployment, discrimination and stigma related to aging. Increasing popularity of ‘Nuclear Family’ is impacting negatively on the emotional and physical well-being of the elderly persons. Their life stories inspired and encouraged him to take initiative to help the needy older persons. He has travelled widely and participated in conferences/seminars/workshops on Elderly people in India and abroad( Canada, America, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan).  He has been providing advocacy for the rights of the older persons.
